Jennifer Lopez also attended designer Daniel Roseberry's otherworldly fashion show, wearing a coat made out of 7,000 real rose petals.
Schiaparelli opened the Spring Summer 2024 season’s haute couture collections in Paris with an extraterrestrial bang.
The brand’s designer, Daniel Roseberry, treated the audience to a show inspired by the scientific studies of Giovanni Schiaparelli, uncle of Elsa Schiaparelli, founder of the fashion house. Giovanni, in 1877 as director of the Brera Observatory in Milan, discovered a series of canals that mark the surface of Mars.
Giovanni Schiaparelli also coined the term ‘Martian’ and inadvertently started our modern fascination with creatures from another planet, which continues to this day, thanks to his discoveries,” the creative director told The Hollywood Reporter behind the scenes.
In addition to fashion, Giovanni’s niece was notoriously involved in stargazing and astrology, an occupation that included the whole family. Roseberry therefore took inspiration from this ancestral tradition and created “Schiaparalien,” a collection inspired by the inhabitants of Mars.
Garments and accessories paraded down the runway, such as a dress adorned with microchips, paying homage to the original codes devised by the founder of the historic maison, similar to keyholes with locks and the fascinating interest in human anatomy.
Schiaparelli's Spring Summer 2024 Collection: A Masterpiece of Creativity
The Spring Summer 2024 collection by Schiaparelli was a true testament to the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity. From the moment the first model stepped onto the runway, it was evident that this collection was something extraordinary. The designs exuded a sense of modernity and innovation, combined with the timeless elegance that Schiaparelli is known for.
Featuring a harmonious blend of vibrant colors, luxurious fabrics, and intricate detailing, each garment in this collection was a work of art. From the flowing silhouettes to the meticulous embroidery, every design showcased the impeccable craftsmanship that Schiaparelli is renowned for.
The Artistry Behind the Designs
One cannot discuss Schiaparelli without delving into the artistry that goes into each and every design. For the Spring Summer 2024 collection, the brand drew inspiration from various art forms, resulting in a collection that transcends fashion and becomes wearable art.
The use of vivid colors and bold prints, reminiscent of abstract paintings, brought the garments to life on the runway. The attention to detail and precision in the construction of each piece showcased the brand's commitment to creating wearable masterpieces. From the delicately handcrafted embellishments to the structural elements that added a touch of drama, it is clear that every element of the collection was carefully considered and executed.
Unveiling the Couture Secrets
Behind every successful couture collection lies a myriad of techniques and craftsmanship. At Schiaparelli, these secrets are guarded by the skilled artisans who bring the designs to life. The Spring Summer 2024 collection showcased a range of techniques, from intricate hand-embroidery to innovative fabric manipulations.
One notable feature of the collection was the use of three-dimensional elements. Through the art of draping and sculpting, the designers at Schiaparelli created garments that seemed to defy gravity. These architectural pieces were an embodiment of the brand's commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging the norms of fashion.
Reinventing Elegance for the Modern Woman
Schiaparelli has always been synonymous with elegance, and the Spring Summer 2024 collection further solidified this reputation. However, the brand also managed to reinvent this timeless quality for the modern woman. Through the use of unexpected color combinations, unconventional cuts, and unexpected pairings, Schiaparelli showcased its ability to adapt to the ever-changing fashion landscape.
From the sleek pantsuits that exuded power and confidence to the ethereal gowns that floated down the runway, each design was tailored to embody the spirit of the modern woman. The collection offered a range of options, ensuring that every woman could find something that resonated with her individual style.
The Verdict: Schiaparelli's Spring Summer 2024 Couture Triumph
Schiaparelli's Spring Summer 2024 couture collection was nothing short of a triumph. From the artistry behind each design to the reinvention of elegance, the brand showcased its expertise, authority, and trust in the world of high fashion. This collection not only captivated the audience but also set the tone for the future of couture.
With its remarkable vision and commitment to pushing boundaries, Schiaparelli once again proved why it is one of the most revered names in the fashion industry. As fashion enthusiasts eagerly await the next creation from this iconic house, the Spring Summer 2024 collection will be remembered as a true testament to the brand's commitment to artistry, elegance, and innovation.
“Art and nature teach us that things and ideas that seem diametrically opposed to each other can also combine to create surprising delusions. Objects composed of familiar parts — the scientist and fashion designer, the uncle and niece — when combined, create something surprising and new. The results are figures and profiles at once familiar and unfamiliar, partly human, partly something else. So, totally ‘Schiaparelli,'” replied a satisfied Roseberry at the end of the fashion show.
Applauding the extraterrestrial creations were Euphoria lead Zendaya (sporting a new, very straight hairstyle with short bangs and a spectacular all-black outfit) and co-star Hunter Schafer (wearing a black gown with a floral-motif statement necklace in gold).
But the biggest star statement at the show was the ultra-voluminous white overcoat composed of real rose petals worn by Jennifer Lopez, who paired the look with black leggings and surrealist sunglasses. The coat, according to the brand, was “made of 7,000 real rose petals kept fresh and alive by sugar water, also known as hummingbird nectar.”
